Build some huge Sabatier reactors and get all the CNG you need. All you have to feed them is carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Methane has a number of advantages over hydrogen.
Process the methane a bit more and you'll have liquid fuel.

The other issue here is focusing too much on a single energy source. NG use in the US is way, way up in the last ten years. Electrical plants using NG as their fuel is the primary reason-they are (relatively) cheap to build, and low in NOx and CO emissions. As electrical consumption increases, the likely response from industry will be more NG plant construction-which will lead to higher NG prices. The wiser solution is for the consumer to have variable fuel options-and with electric cars, the power supplier is choosing the lowest cost plants to provide the cheapest source. A big move towards NG cars will push NG prices up, and leave the car owners holding the bag.

Range isn't an issue on most CNG cars, as they are dual fuel. If you run out of CNG, switch to gas. It definately has potential.

They need to come up with economical CNG cars IMO.

Don't stray to far from home unless you want to walk. Things of this nature work but the infrastructure is not readily available to support them. Besides it would not be a cheap proposition to equip your vehicle and home with the required devices to re fill etc. Could be a little dangerous as well..

CNG gets lower gas mileage than gasoline and there are much better uses for the limited supply of CNG than running our vehicles.
