Who said this? Who is "they".
ray1218 - How does not buying gas for a week hurt the oil companies? They still provide petroleum to make Plastic bags, Cosmetics, Food Packaging, Heart Valves, Insecticides, Linoleum, Motor Oil and many other products.
Not buying gas for a day, week or even month isn't going to hurt big oil, they will just sell it to someone who needs it, another country, company or even just store it up for when people start to buy it again. In the mean time, you will find empty grocery stores, high unemployment, and an economy that is destroyed.
Everyone complains that prices are high, but if people would stop wasting everything, it would start to help. You want cheap gas, but what are you willing to give up to get it?
Perhaps a class or two in economics and how the world works as a whole might help you some.

ray1218: If everyone did follow your suggestion. That is if everyone did stop buying gas for a week., what impact do you think it would have on your personal economy? And what would the impact be to others in your community like neighbors, retailers, police, fire, schools, hospitals, and businesses. Also would you be agreeable to losing some of these services as each closes shop to conserve what feel they have or are unable to open because employees and customers are no longer able to travel.

Great idea, that "all we need to do is stop buying gas for a week that is all truckers and company everybody!!!!"
We can still use our cars and trucks to get to work, though, right? So we don't miss out on our jobs? Just wondering, I guess trucks will continue driving until they run out of gas whever they are, or should they make special deliveries? What about shopping and taking kids to school and medical appointments? Are they okay to drive to?
And, we're just talking about not buying gas, right? I mean we can still use what we have, just don't buy anymore until the week's up?

And since this is a boycott thread, I assume that you're boycotting $4 gas? Wouldn't this be better posted in either a local (Michigan) thread or in one of the other categories?
And in any case, for a lot of people $4 gas is old news.
