Researchers at Ford have developed a series of in-car health and wellness apps and services aimed at monitoring people with chronic illnesses or medical disorders so they can manage their condition while on the go.

These in-car health and wellness connectivity solutions include:

Glucose Monitoring. Working with Medtronic, a leading manufacturer of glucose-monitoring devices, Ford researchers have developed a prototype system which allows Ford SYNC to connect via Bluetooth to a Medtronic continuous glucose monitoring device and share glucose levels and trends through audio and a center stack display and provide secondary alerts if levels are too low.

Allergy alerts. Ford is working with SDI Health...

As the population ages, in car apps connected by SYNC with Bluetooth, to monitor the driver and passengers health. Glucose, diabetes, asthma, cold and cough and allergies are some of the conditions that can be monitored that may affect driving. Need less age related or medical conditions that can affect driving and accidents.
The person would have to have a smart phone or an in car computer for connection to the medical provider or facility. Keep the connection secure and the data base strictly private.

We monitor many systems in our cars and have a variety of audible and visual warning signals that something may be amiss. Sometimes we get false alarms which we should check and confirm anyway. These developing systems are no different except that they are monitoring the driver and not the vehicle.

This stuff can be a lot of help for a number of people who suffer from certain illness. These illnesses can cause a driver, when not carried for right, to go out of control and my crash into another driver or thing. Nobody want that too happen to them!!

It is evident that the manufacturers are going to put a large limit on the number of autos who carry this stuff. If a large number of them did, there is a chance that they could loose buyers.

Perhaps not, but it is the top story of December 15, 2011 and perhaps we must honor PD for having another top story of the day!!!

Ahh yes, ignorance abounds even here.
These devices (continuous glucose monitors) allow a diabetic to recognize when their blood sugar is approaching levels that require attention. Ford is only providing a way for these people to link their monitor to the Sync display system just like you link your bluetooth enabled phone to the same system for "hands free" operation.
They are not diagnosing anything or recommending any treatment, just providing the customer a way to access the information they need to remain safe while driving.
A temperature guage installed in a vehicle may give you information that the car is overheating but that doesn't make it a mechanic that can diagnose and fix the problem. You must be aware of your situation and take appropriate action.
I also agree with the idea that it's too bad that there isn't a monitor for stupid attacks. On the other hand, you can't fix stupid.
