Biofuels battle ignites again

Chronicle -- A government mandate meant to boost renewable fuel use has left gasoline makers on the hook for buying biofuels that don't exist, a leading energy industry trade and lobbying group alleges in a federal lawsuit.

In the suit filed late Tuesday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the American Petroleum Institute argues that the Environmental Protection Agency's requirements are unreasonable.

"EPA's unattainable and absurd mandate forces refiners to pay a penalty for failing to use biofuels that don't even exist," Bob Greco, the API's director of downstream and industry operations, said in a statement.

The EPA said it is reviewing the lawsuit related to cellulosic biofuel - ethanol fermented from products other than corn, which is the main source of U.S. biofue

Cellulosic ethanol is a another shell game to provide the government with more of our money to redistribute to their crony capitalists. Make the investment stand on its own and we will see how fast these crony capitalists get out of the business!

And they're complaining about a fine that's less than 2M$ per quarter?? Exxon's executives collected 46M$ last year.

It causes land prices to inflate thus raising the cost of land for food production & the food cost. It Increases pollution by depleting our world wide forest. Ethanol does not result in the use of less Gasoline because it decreases efficiency almost equal to the percentage of the mix. The manufacture of Ethanol causes additional pollution while not saving any pollution by using it, even if you make it from non crop products like Algae or crop waste etc.

Ethanol does not work in a anyway so why have the extra effort and expense as well as the low performance of the vehicles which causes the use of more gasoline and loss of money. Then there is the increased cost of food like Meat, Poultry and Dairy. We need to have laws that are not passed to make the Ethanol Mafia rich while we worry about which it is going to be. Food or Gas for the Car?

We need to stop buying foreign oil and produce our own fuels. Alcohol runs excellent in motors and can be produced in the USA with materials we grow.
