Gas prices should level in August after July wildness

Fuel Fix -- Gasoline prices might have seemed a bit out of whack this month.

Houston gasoline prices remained steady over the past week at $3.35 a gallon. Over the past month though, Houston drivers are paying nearly 20 cents more as gasoline rose with the steady rise of crude oil prices.

Nationally, unleaded gasoline rose 4 cents to $3.52 for the week, and Texans saw price stay steady at $3.35.

“Higher global oil prices and increased demand for gasoline during the busy summer driving season were the primary factors that sent pump prices higher in July,” said Avery Ash, AAA spokesperson.

And as soon as they start to level out there will either be some minor disruption in supply or refineries will shut down for "routine" maintinance and the price will go back up 10x faster than it ever comes down.

I say you should keep your hands off the oil industry. As it stands now, the average oil company makes a profit of eight cents on every dollar of fuel they sell.

When I was working (since retired), our Finance people said the minimum acceptable level was ten and a half cents on every dollar of products and services we sold.

Needless to say, the company I used to work for was not in the oil business.

In the past month to 45 days gas has went from 2.829/10 to 3.209/10 at one station in SC. That is 38 cents a gallon.

It was a Dick Cheney fantasy for the funds wasted in Iraq to be an "oil investment."

And they wouldn't have to have spent tens of billions of dollars on the rebuilding of Iraq had saner heads prevailed and prevented the expenditure of billions of dollars on the destruction of Iraq.
